A couple of weeks ago I was discussing with a handful of other people in LinkedIn how they keep their backups.
It was interesting to know that people are more concerned about keeping their data safe.
Some were using local servers and even SANs to run their backups. Nice!
One comment caught my attention, though, and it was from the guy running a multi TB SAN at home.
I still keep the important stuff in a Google account.
Well, that’s concerning because it is well known that the interconnected network of algorithms and “terms of service” across the entire Google portfolio can have its glitches from time to time.
One of the dare consequences it keeping people locked outside their “Gmail accounts”, which instantly disconnect them from other online services depending on that same account.
It’s not a question of just resetting a password. No no.
The account sits somewhere within a wide scale of statuses ranging from “suspended” to “cancelled”, with lots of shades of gray in between.
On top of that, online support is basically non-existent to the usual homo sapiens like you and me. So you are most likely “just waiting” for a resolution.
And then comes the kicker.
So now, not only the body of rules that can potentially lock you outside your account will be created/maintained by AI, but also the “support analysts” who take your ticket and try to resolve it, bringing your account back on and all of your “important data” with it.
Let’s keep both eyes on this. It’s going to be wild.
