Slow reading books is a joy.
I’m rereading the entire Dune Chronicles, and I’m doing it slowly.
At the time of this writing I’m reading the first book, Dune, alongside a handful of other books I’m reading for the first time.
The main reason I can read slow is because all the typical “reader’s expectations” are already met. I know the story as I much know the characters. I don’t need to hurry to get to the end of the story or to tell someone I have endured the task of reading a more elaborated book.
Slow reading allows you to open the book to read one single page and don’t feel bad about it.
It’s like arriving to a city at coast and then going to the beach just to step on the sand, look to the left, look to the right and then leave the beach to do your things. Those moments are immediately rewarding. Staying at the beach for 1 minute or 1 hour won’t make much difference.
I can say the same about reading 1 page or 10 pages. I know I’ll be transported to Arrakis and feel the spice in the air no matter the number of pages I read.
